This Pinot Noir's color is deep garnet. In the glass it exudes aromas of ripe black cherries, plum, anise, cranberry, and fruit cake with a touch of smokiness. On the palate the wine is medium full bodied with rich black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, and pie cherry, with hints of white pepper, graham cracker and baking spices. The long, clean finish features black cherry, raspberry and pie cherry flavors framed in sweet oak spice.
Pamela Frye '79 & Richard Boyles '79 established the vineyard and winery business over a decade ago near Eugene, Oregon. Our 44 acre vineyard is located in the foothills of the Oregon Coastal Range near the town of Lorane, and our 21,000 square foot modern winery is located in the city of Cottage Grove. We specialize in Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris of exceptional quality.
This elegant Chardonnay, sourced from Dijon Clones, was barrel fermented and combines rich aromas of citrus peel, clove, brown sugar and lemon shortbread for a complex nose. The silky smooth, yet creamy texture frames flavors of Asian pear, honey and lemon custard. The wine finishes with bright acidity, ideal for food pairing.
Founder, Jim Bernau '76, purchased the Estate site in 1983 and cleared away the old pioneer plum orchard hidden in scotch broom and blackberry vines. He planted Pinot Noir (Pommard and Wadenswil clones), Chardonnay (Dijon and Espiguette) and Pinot Gris. In the beginning he hand watered the vines with thousands of feet of hose.
Numerous classes at UC Davis, and seminars from here to France, sharpened Jim's viticultural skills and in 1989 he was ready to build his dream—a world class winery in the Willamette Valley—and make cool-climate varietals, especially Pinot Noir, in sufficient quantities to be served and sold in the best restaurants and bottle shops in the world.
Our 2012 Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon has beautiful aromas boasting of roasted coffee, wild blackberry, and cocoa dust. On the palette, the entry explodes with earthen spice and candied currant followed by a long and focused mineral finish. The depth, balance, and concentration of this wine is a result of the nearly perfect growing conditions of the 2012 vintage.
