We are excited to introduce another year of the Santa Clara University Mission Wine Collection. We’ve selected two distinguished wineries with SCU alumni connections for this year’s release. The wines feature custom-designed labels with iconic views of the Mission Church from the 1920s. Proceeds will support the Alumni Family Scholarship program, which helps legacy students attend the University.
The 2014 vintage of Estate Pinot Noir is bright crimson in appearance and expressive of the distinctive character of the Arroyo Grande Valley which produces well structured pinot noir. Mineral notes in the aroma are complemented by hints of cranberry chutney and a faint trace of cigar box. On the palate, this elegant and well balanced pinot noir displays notes of bright raspberry and a touch of black pepper. With refreshing acidity and great structure, this wine is ready to enjoy now but will age gracefully over the next decade. Pair the 2014 Estate Pinot Noir with grilled quail or smoked salmon crostini.
The 2016 vintage of Bishop's Peak Chardonnay is light straw in appearance and reveals aromas of lemon, white peach, and jasmine. On the palate, intriguing notes of orange creamsicle, pear juice, and lime zest are enhanced by a chalky minerality. Try pairing this refreshing chardonnay with oysters on the half shell or linguini with clams.
A full bodied wine with notes of black cherry, ripe plum and dark chocolate. Aromas of blackberry jam, blueberry, and plum with hints of espresso and chocolate. Rich and layered with lots of fresh fruit flavors dominated by ripe black cherries and mocha. With a lingering finish and medium tannins our wine pairs perfectly with a grilled bone-in Ribeye steak or a rustic Tuscan vegetable stew.
