Thirty-eight years ago, the Stanford Alumni Association launched the Stanford Wine Program as an experiment. We invited Stanford alumni working in the wine industry to sample a variety of wines and select finalists for a new custom label program. We sold over 12,000 bottles of wine that first year. Little did we know that it would become such a strong alumni tradition and here we are, over a million bottles later, in 2018. Since that first year, alumni wine experts have gathered at Stanford each spring to serve as judges at a blind tasting, selecting wines from dozens of samples from some of the best wineries on the West Coast.
Our alumni panelists have to make tough decisions as they consider many possible contenders for the collection. The role that alumni vintners play in the selection process makes the Stanford program truly unique, and we greatly appreciate their expertise and guidance. Creating a custom label series that captures the spirit and beauty of Stanford is another distinctive feature of each wine collection.
Over the years, we have proudly offered wines from more than one hundred wineries and created vital revenue to help support Stanford Alumni Association programs. Collecting these specially selected wines has become an ongoing tradition that Stanford alumni enthusiastically support year after year. Cheers to our loyal customers!
